Project Highlight: The Affiliate Group Stablecoin Account

This semester, I have been working with a couple of other Davidson Blockchain Club members, Robby Votta and Logan Sheistle, on a project we are calling the Affiliate Group Stablecoin Account.

In plain terms, we are building a simple group money account for informal groups like HOAs, fraternities, club teams, student orgs, and friend groups. If you have ever tried to collect dues, reimburse someone who covered a bill, or keep track of a shared budget in a group chat, you already know the problem. It is messy, it is manual, and it relies on someone being the “finance person” by default.

What we are building

The idea is to give groups a lightweight “shared wallet” experience, with two key upgrades:

  1. Card payments so members can pay with a normal credit or debit card.

  2. Stablecoins under the hood, so the group’s funds can be stored and moved in a way that is fast and easy to track.

We are designing the core flow around a few simple actions:

  • Create a group account (meant to be low-friction for informal groups)

  • Collect payments from members

  • Hold funds in a stablecoin such as USDC

  • Spend from the group balance or redistribute money back to members when needed

Why stablecoins?

Stablecoins are useful here because they are designed to hold a consistent value and move quickly. For group finances, that means less confusion about what the balance “really is,” plus smoother transfers when the group needs to pay someone back or cover an expense.

Where we want to take it

The goal is to help a group’s funds work a little harder while still staying accessible for spending and reimbursements.

We have a front-end prototype up and running. If you want to click around and get a feel for the concept, here it is: https://spontaneous-pony-885adc.netlify.app/
